Gilly, Mrs. Bedelia Du Maurier.... I'm going to sound a little self-destructive but I'm glad she stayed, most people would probably return her after a short time anyway. It's hard to say why, there's not one reason, but about a million little ones. I raised many terriers but Gilly is truly exceptional. She's the most creative dog I ever met and teaching her to rest was the toughest part. Raising Gilly is a long-term project for a very patient person and I often have to remind myself how small, cute and helpess she was when she was born with only 100g. She's a fighter since the very beginning, won't give up easily.
It's not possible to work with her in any other way than positively, she's very, very intelligent, small and quick and doesn't hesitate to use it against you. She sees through every training tricks and attempts and does her best to shape my behaviour according to her needs instead. Her mom Evie, who is normally a happy and all-day active dog, is helping with Gilly and it's making her tired and depressed, too.
All this is making the everyday life with Gilly complicated, but it's also making her the perfect dog to work with and I believe she would be a wonderful hunting dog too, outsmarting any fox. Gilly just isn't average, she gives 100% into absolutely everything she's doing.
Since she was a little puppy, we train various exercises to raise self-control, train a lot with the clicker to shape the desired behaviour. We're also training agility. Gilly is a pleasure to work with when training just about anything, she compensates there all the mischief she does during the normal day.
Gilly doesn't like dog shows - she likes strangers, but thinks that dog shows and the judges who examine her are terrible. Let's see if I can change her mind. She managed to gain some show success both in FCI and with specialist judges.

I hesitated breeding Gilly due to some of her personality traits, which I do not like. The decision to not breed her confirmed itself as right later - she got an epilepsy seizure with 5,5 years, of the type typical for this breed and age onset. Let's hope she can live a happy and long life, as the other dogs suffering from this type of epilepsy do.
